A tale of two halves

Cavaliers blow one goal lead in second half against Jefferson College.

It was the best of times and worst of times for the Cavaliers men's soccer team Thursday night against Jefferson College.
After allowing a goal at the 19 minute mark the Cavaliers scored two goals in a span of 13 minutes.
Alex Rathbun, freshman midfielder, Westwood, scored at the 22 minute mark and Dustin Schiller, freshman forward, Baldwin City, Kan., added a score at the 35 minute mark.
In the second half the Jefferson College Vikings came out on fire, knocking in goals at the 71 and 75 minute mark from Allen Loy and Colin Pugh respectively.
The Cavaliers tried valiantly but came up short losing 3-2.
Fatai Ayoade, head coach, said the Cavaliers didn't show up in the second half.
"[Jefferson College] came out fired up to play the second half and we didn't give the same intensity so that's why we lost this game. When you look at the first half we did well," he said.
Schiller said if the Cavaliers capitalized on their opportunities it would have been a blowout the other way.
"We had more opportunities that we didn't finish. It should have been 6-0, 6-1," he said. "We gotta put those in. They came back and capitalized on our mistakes in the second half."
The Cavaliers next play McKendree University's Junior Varsity squad in St. Louis on Sept. 20 at 1 p.m.
Their next home match will be Sept. 25 against Neosho County Community College at 4 p.m.
