Welcome to the new era of Cavalier sports.
Changes abounded over the summer with the resignations of three coaches.
Gone is Debbie Carrier, head coach, women’s basketball. Jill Stinson, the volleyball head coach, and Joe Weis, head track coach.
In their stead are Benjamin Conrad, Jenny Ei and Mike Bloemker respectively.
Also changing is the way The Campus Ledger covers sports.
First of all, I want to thank Stephen Montemayor for the awesome job he did as Sports Editor last year.
He took a lifeless, dull sports section and gave it some bounce.
My goal is to take the work he has done and expound upon it.
I look forward to a great year of Cav sports and will strive to provide the most comprehensive, up to date sports coverage ever in the history of this wonderful college.
The Campus Ledger sports section will now focus more on feature articles about Cav athletes, past and present.
Starting with the September 11 issue, box scores from the previous two weeks will be available for your viewing pleasure.
Also, sports will not just be in black and white any more.
Sports at the college will now be taking the big leap onto the information superhighway.
Our website will focus on up to the minute stories and photos from the latest game(s).
Debuting this year will be webcasting of Cav Sports, beginning tomorrow at 4 pm as Matt Galloway and I call the fall baseball debut versus the Expos live from the baseball stadium.
Basketball and volleyball games will be video cast live; baseball and softball games will be audio cast live.
Other sports such as soccer, tennis, track and cross country will receive comprehensive coverage online and may be available in webcast format at a future date.
We believe this will provide an in depth perspective on Cav sports.
Every pitch and hit will be heard.
Every slam dunk, layup and free throw will be seen.
In depth interviews with coaches and players will provide you, the fan, with up close access to your favorite athletes and teams.
Much like the EA Sports slogan, “If it’s in the game, it’s in the game,” as sports editor my vow is “if it’s in the game, it is in The Campus Ledger.”
