Recently Major League Baseball instituted instant replay review for home run calls, becoming the last major professional sports league to institute the technology.
This announcement led me to think, “What would life be like if it were reviewable by instant replay?”
Looking into the vast video tape library that is our lives, there’s bound to be some moments that would make us stop and review.
I can think of some moments in my life that I would like to go back and review and perhaps overturn the call.
Take high school for instance. If I could review the tape I would have spent more time paying attention and less time sleeping.
Everyone surely has an ex-girlfriend or boyfriend in their life that inspires the question, “What the heck was I thinking?”
Imagine if that decision were reviewable. It would save a lot of head scratching and heart ache for sure.
But unfortunately life isn’t reviewable by instant replay and decisions made are final.
Or is it unfortunate? As painful as some of the decisions made have been I wouldn’t trade them for the world.
Because the Cameron Fletcher that sits here today writing this article was formed and molded by decisions both good and bad.
This Cameron Fletcher isn’t perfect as he is in fact human. He has made mistakes that have affected not only himself but the people around him.
So if life were reviewable by instant replay I would not take part, because life goes on in spite of mistakes and in some instances because of mistakes.
This Cameron Fletcher stands here thankful for all the decisions good and bad that have helped shape him into the man he is today.
I’m thankful for my ex-girlfriend for teaching me that love sometimes can hurt.
I’m thankful for my high school experience and all the friendships made during that time.
The important thing to do in life is get the call right the first time. It saves a lot of unnecessary hurt and of course video tape.
